200 Million Nigerians Are The ‘Cabals’ Controlling Buhari — Presidency

The Presidency yesterday said rather than a so-called cabal, an imaginary creation linked to all past governments of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari is remote-controlled by the 200 million-plus Nigerian people.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said that it was the interest of the Nigerian masses that is uppermost in everything the President says and does.

Reacting to various comments by several organs of the opposition party on remarks made by the President on views publicly expressed by his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, Garba said if the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP wants to make family the issue in the coming elections, the APC would gladly accept the challenge.

The presidential spokesman told State House Correspondents that the said questions raised of the President by the PDP in regard to his wife only amounted to an own goal.

“The PDP leadership cannot afford to make family an issue in this campaign. Need I say more? The only thing I want to add is that PDP is engaging in mud-slinging because it finds it easier than speaking on their despicable 16-year record in the course of which they abused the trust of Nigerians.

“They made a mess of everything including the economy, security, and infrastructure. It has come to the destiny of President Muhammadu Buhari to correct their mistakes.

“The PDP doesn’t see anything beyond grabbing power, power at all costs. As an opposition party, they have failed. They have remained disconnected from the masses of our people.

It is an irony that a party that boasted as being the largest in Africa is now begging small parties for alliances. Even if they get all those paper parties behind them, they will still fail. A Presidential contest is more than the issuance of daily press releases containing falsehoods.

“They have launched a campaign for the Presidency, a campaign that has failed to get any traction. PDP members are themselves admitting that the campaign hadn’t made a good start, that attendance at rallies had unarguably been thin. The whole thing is not working; that President Buhari is unstoppable,” he said.
He continued: “ The PDP doesn’t have the strength and support to fight President Buhari. They don’t have the records in security, economy and the war against corruption to mount any meaningful challenge. They have no records of accomplishments in infrastructure.

In the 16 years they held sway, they have nothing to show for the colossal oil revenues earned, including USD 16 billion doled upfront from the Central Bank for power, without a single megawatt to show for all that money. That is why they are dragging the President’s wife into their politics.”

Osinbajo’s Dream Of 2023 Presidency Insensitive, Will Never Come To Pass – Obi

A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Ben Obi, has said reacting to the comment by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on the 2023 presidency going to the Southwest.

According to him, OsinbĂ jo’s remark was insensitive and height of mischief.

Recall that Osinbajo had said President Muhammadu Buhari would hand over the presidency to the South West after completing his two terms in office.

But in a statement in Abuja, Obi berated Osinbajo for asserting that the presidency would revert to the South West after Buhari in 2023.

“Apart from the fact that the PDP will win the 2019 presidential election in which case Osinbajo’s reckless and morally outrageous scenario will never come to pass, the mere thought of making that insensitive declaration after Obasanjo’s 8-year presidential tenure and Osinbajo’s 4-year vice presidency, in the context in which power is yet to rotate to the South East, is the height of political intolerance and mischief-making,” he said.

Obi, who is also the Director of the Campaign’s CUPP/Inter-party Directorate, said Osinbajo should learn the historical circumstances that threw up the Obasanjo Vs Falae presidential contest in 1999 and why the Late Dr. Alex Ekwueme sacrificed so much to ensure that Obasanjo won that election.

The senator charged Osinbajo to retrieve his “lost moral compass” with regard to this issue, and “also with regard to his Tradermoni vote-buying antics which, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a professor, and a pastor, he knows to be an unethical, corrupt and reprehensible electoral maneuver.”

The PDP chieftain said the opposition party would be working closely with local communities and their grassroots-based organizations for a full buy-in into its vision of getting Nigeria to work again, the first step of which would entail taking the country back and re-directing it on the path of peace, security, and prosperity

Boko Haram: Ben Bruce reveals why 150 policemen dumped counter-insurgency training

The Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce, has rationalised the reported absconding of over 150 police officers drafted for counter-insurgency operations in the northeast.

According to him, it was common sense for the police personnel to feel ‘demotivated’ towards the fight against Boko Haram, having witnessed how the Federal Government purportedly neglected the families of heroes who lost their lives battling terrorists in the region.

Buttressing his point on Twitter, the lawmaker cited the recent funeral of troops who died in Metele fighting Boko Haram as an instance, saying neither the President nor his representative was present as they were laid to rest.
He tweeted: “Why won’t the policemen run? If they die what will happen to their wives and children?

“Look at how we buried the hero soldiers who died at Metele. The President did not attend. He was not represented. Those policemen were watching. Are they fools? Do they want the same treatment?”

However, the Nigerian military has offered a clear explanation on a news report that over 150 among the 2000 Policemen deployed to fight Boko Haram insurgents in the North East, absconded from their counter-insurgency military training exercise.

Brigadier-General A. S. Ishaq, the Coordinator Nigeria Police Force for Operation Lafiya-Dole (NPFOLD), in a chat with PRNigeria, said there was nothing like policemen absconded, but just a case of some recalcitrant personnel leaving their training base for a reason which was not cogent.

The top Army officer added that the special training, which should have been concluded last Friday, was extended for one week to enable the Policemen to partake in all the requisite military combat exercises before they depart the camp.

“The Policemen didn’t abscond as alleged in media reports. What happened was that some of the Police officers insisted on going for the Christmas holiday. But in line with standard military operations, there was no way officers undergoing special training on a combat-operation, could leave their base when the training exercise has not rounded up.

“So, we refused to grant them permission. However, the unruly ones among them left our Special Forces School at Buni-Yadi, venue of the training. But thank God, the unruly personnel were tracked at Damaturu, the state’s capital. Right now, some of them have been brought back to the School,” he said.

‘I’ve shed blood for Nigeria; till I die, Buhari will address me as ‘Sir’’ – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, said he’s qualified to criticise President Muhammadu Buhari, having presided over the affairs of the country and shed blood for the unity of the nation.

He said this at the 2018 Ibogun Day celebration, which attracted notable indigenes of Ogun State on Wednesday.

Also in attendance were: Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, two gubernatorial candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Allied People’s Movement (APM), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, respectively.

Obasanjo said that Buhari would have not won in 2015 election if not for his support.

According to him, “I know Buhari and he too knows me. Till the day I die, Buhari will continue to address me as ‘sir.’ In 2015, if I didn’t support Buhari, he wouldn’t have won the election.

“I have what it takes to correct him. Nigeria should not be in the position we are today. Nigeria can be better. God has given us all that we need.

“I am qualified to speak against Buhari. One, I have done it before. Two, I have shed my blood for this country. Even my biological son has shed his blood. Why can’t I speak about what is best for this country? I am doubly qualified to do that.”

EPL: Hazard speaks on Real Madrid move after 2-1 win over Watford

Chelsea star, Eden Hazard, has brushed off talk of an imminent move to Real Madrid, by insisting he wants to become a legend at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard netted his 100th goal for the Blues, in their 2-1 victory at Watford on Boxing Day.

The game was finely poised between the two London teams before Hazard burst clear, set on his way by Mateo Kovacic and he showed composure to round Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster to reach his century in a Chelsea shirt.
The Belgian scored his 101st from the penalty spot in the second half, ensuring Roberto Pereyra’s strike was just a consolation.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hazard said: “(The 101 goals) mean a lot especially because we won today.

“One-hundred-and-one goals with this amazing club is something I will never forget!

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom has promised that the launching of the South-South zonal campaign rally of its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, will be hitch-free.

He said: “It is going to be a national APC event. We are expecting to host Mr. President in person, the Vice President in person, the national chairman of our party, the national leaders of our party and the national working committee, governors, ministers and members from all over Nigeria.

“So, indeed this rally will provide the foundation for the take-off of our presidential campaigns and we will be expecting the 30,000 Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to be filled to the brim.

“From the feedback we are getting from our members all over Akwa Ibom and all of the South-South states and from other states in Nigeria, we know that that the stadium is going to be filled to capacity.

“The good people of Akwa Ibom are very excited and enthusiastic and they are waiting to receive the President. Again, we are not surprised because the good people of Akwa Ibom have felt the impact of the good works undertaken by Mr. President.

“We have had occasion in the past to review the scorecard of Mr. President not just for all Nigerians but as it affects Akwa Ibom and that is why our members in the state are very excited.

“The good people of Akwa Ibom who are not even members of our party are also very enthusiastic about receiving the President and to thank him ahead of the election for what he has done for the state, the South-South zone and the people of Nigeria.

“So, attendance at this rally would also be a way of sending a message to Mr. President that we appreciate what he has done for our people in terms of the key strategic appointments which he has given to sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom, and clearly this is unprecedented”.
