A-Ibom PDP demands adequate security for INEC offices

 BY Chioma Onuegbu, Uyo

With the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio fighting for his political life, the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday demanded  adequate security for Independent National Electoral Commission offices across the state.

The publicity secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong who made the appeal yesterday particularly called for strict security in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district and the state office in Uyo

Ememobong who made the call at a press conference in Uyo, said the call was upon intelligence on a plot to burn INEC offices in the state aimed at frustrating the results of the last Saturday National Assembly poll in the area.

He said, “We are in receipt of impeccable intelligence indicating a plan to attack and burn INEC offices in ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and the headquarters in Uyo .

“We are hereby appealing that the security operatives should provide adequate security for all the offices, officers and infrastructure of INEC to prevent agents from making their threat of destroying lives and property.

“We also appeal to INEC to remain firm, resolute and unbending in the discharge of their duties. Illegitimate requests must never be acceded to.”

He also disclosed that collation of results had been done in nine out of 10 local government areas in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and three out of four of the House of Representatives seats declared by INEC as having been won by the PDP with a wide margin of more that 60,000 votes.

He added that the only Local Government Area left is Essien Udim, which INEC is currently working on.

He added that the party was not going to compromise the result of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district, no matter the level of appeal from the APC.

“The Inspector General of Police and the entire security apparatus of government must engender public confidence about their neutrality and must show that no one is above the law.

“All institutions of state must depart from partisan tendencies as it is a great threat to the sustainability and growth of our democracy”, he said
